Description
The Buffer Brigade of Friends of Curtis Arboretum is determined to restore the riparian buffer on Rock Creek (which winds through the arboretum) to a healthy condition that protects the water quality, encourages wildlife and beautifies the park. Over the last five years, we have removed (by hand) thousands of invasive vines and other plants like knotweed and multiflora roses-- that were killing the trees and overwhelming Rock Creek and its banks. As that work has progressed, we have planted almost 1500 native trees and bushes to replace the invasive plants. Our fundraising efforts are designed to support this work with the purchase of native trees/bushes, irrigation equipment, deer protection and other support materials. Our all-volunteer team has grown from two to 12, and we work every week all year.
